On 11 March, David Tvildiani Medical University held open door day, where the meeting was led by the dean of the university, Nino Bregvadze-Tabagari, Vice-Dean, Paata Tsagareishvili and graduate of this university, president of Students’ and Young Scientists’ Scientific Association of David Tvildiani Medical University, Tinatin Kuchukhidze.
The meeting covered several important topics related to education and scientific research. Some of the key points discussed were:

We also talked about the Students’ and Young Scientists’ Scientific Association (SYSSA), including their activities and the various interest groups that exist within the association. Finally, we discussed the existing education courses offered by the university. Overall, the meeting was very informative and exciting. The students were engaged and showed great interest in the topics we discussed.

On the 10th of December, 2022 David Tvildiani Medical University’s Students’ and Young Scientists’ Association (SYSSA) hosted the XIth Nobel scientific session dedicated to the oncological disease, related combative strategies, and innovations.
Oncological diseases are one of the most pertinent problems of modern medicine. Despite recent achievements, an increase in the frequency of diseases in the field of oncology is still observed. Against the background of today’s scientific achievements, oncology remains an ever-evolving field with the international community working on the introduction of ultra-modern, digital technologies and the improvement of quality of treatment in this field.
Speakers included students, residents, physicians, and scientists from various Georgian institutions.
Speakers from Ireland and Armenia reported on the latest developments and cases pertaining to oncology.The conference was traditionally opened by the speech of President of Students’ and Young Scientists Scientific Association- Tinatin Kutchukhidze
During the conference, topical issues were discussed on an interactive note.
On the 5th of May,2022 the David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU) Students and Young Scientist Scientific Association (SYSSA) held a workshop at Gagua Clinic. The workshop was led by Irakli Dzneladze MD,Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
Our workshop speaker covered the most important aspects of writing an abstract and the best format for writing a CV/Resume for research publications. There was also an interactive session regarding frequently asked interview questions and how to answer them.
On October 6-8, in Adjara, at the Litz Resort Hotel (Batumi, Kvariati), the annual conference of The Association of Medical Schools in Europe was held, which was hosted by David Tvildian Medical University.
This conference for the first time went beyond the borders of Europe and it was attended by European and international institutions important for the development of the field: WFME (World Federation for Medical Education), EUA-CDE (EUA Council for Doctoral Education), ORPHEUS (The Organization for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System) representatives.
Among the speakers were internationally recognized experts and leaders in the field of medical education: David Gordon – President of the World Federation of Medical Education, The University of Manchester Emeritus Professor, Great Britain;
Harm Peters – President of the Association of European Medical Schools, Charité – Professor of Universitätsmedizin, Germany;
John Krimers – President of the Organization for Doctoral Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System, Professor KU Leuven, Belgium;
Alexander Hasgal – Head of Doctoral Education Council of the European University Association (EUA);
Robin Stevenson – Editor-in-Chief of European CME Journal and Emeritus Professor of Medicine, University of Glasgow, UK;
Bob Harris – Karolinska Institutet Doctoral Education Director, Professor;
Athanasia Printtsa – Aristotle University of Thessaloniki associate professor;
Daniel Dirul – Director of the European Region of the International Federation of Medical Student Associations.
Extensive reports were made remotely by Professor Janusz Jandzukovich (University of Lodz, Poland), Professor Nebozha Lalic (University of Belgrade, Serbia) and Human Resources expert of the World Health Organization – Chris Scotter.
Among the speakers were representatives from Ukraine, Hungary and Lithuania, as well as representatives of ten Georgian organizations.
Within the framework of the conference, two workshops were held. The facilitators of the workshops were: José Miguel Pego (University of Minho, Portugal) and Carlos Fernando Colares (University of Maastricht, Netherlands).
At the end of the event, a gala dinner was held accompanied by traditional Georgian folk songs.

For the world, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has become a kind of test that has acquired a special scale and completely changed the daily rhythm of our lives. After two years of online workshops and conferences, organized by the Scientific Association of Students and Young Scientists of David Tvildian Medical University (SYSSA). The conference was held on May 24-26,which was hosted by “Litz Resort” hotel.
Medicine is a vast field that has no end. Every day, a new discovery leads to new doubts and investigations in this discipline. New strains of infectious pathogens and genetic mutations appear every second. Scientists and medical professionals work tirelessly to solve unsolved medical problems through the latest research and therapies.
The SYSSA organization held a multidisciplinary medical conference this year, which included rare topics from all disciplinary fields of medicine. The speakers were both students and interns as well as scientists and doctors. Recent cases, reports and peer-reviewed articles were discussed during the conference.
The introductory speech was delivered by the Dean of David Tvildian Medical University, Prof. Nino Bregvadze-Tabagarma.
The multidisciplinary medical conference was opened by Dr. MD, Ph.D. Ilia Nadareishvili with a presentation on “Connections in Science” and an introduction to the ERASMUS and “HERD” projects.
Nino Gulatava, Doctor of Medicine, made a presentation on “Megalab’s resource possibilities for inclusion in modern scientific research.”
The conference then continued with presentations by students and residents discussing various diseases, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and concomitant errors in medicine.
At the end of the presentations, workshops were held with the support of SIGN (Neurology Interest Group of Aieti), SIGA (Surgical Interest Group of Aieti), and GIGA (Gynecology Interest Group of Aieti). Karen Stalin led a SIGN workshop covering basic neurological assessment and diagnosis. Giorgi Aladashvili led the SIGA workshop, which taught the participants how to make stitches on a surgical model and the sterilization procedure before surgery. Tinatin Kuchukhidze and Gvantsa Kochiashvili led the GIGA seminar, which included gynecological examination.

Students and Young Scientists Scientific Association held an informational meeting on the 28th of April, 2022 at DTMU Tbilisi Campus.
The meeting began with introducing the students to the members of the SYSSA organization and continued with the discussion about the key information for the upcoming Conference which was to be held on May 24-26 at Litz Resort, Kvariati.
Queries about the registration process, and ticket purchase as well as guidance from drafting an Abstract up until its submissions were cleared and discussed in an interactive manner.
Speaking of the last year’s Nobel’s day, the main theme of the previous session was-“The Future of Medicine”.Unfortunately, no one could actually predict, that the future of medicine for at least several months might be oriented around the struggle with existence against our new opponent – SARS-COV2. The global pandemic has once again shown the world how vital the labor of each medical worker and scientist is and how far the medicine still needs to be developed.
In spite of these significant challenges, SYSSA and David Tvildiani Medical University by Zoom application, have managed to continue our regular scientific sessions and organized this conference via Zoom meeting. Regardless of the fact, that today’s needs make the topics focused on Covid-19 to take the first place in the list, it is still urgent to continue expressing our keen interests in the traditional spheres of medical sciences. That’s why the chosen theme of SYSSA Nobel’s day 2020 was the new approaches and innovations in Endocrine and Metabolic disorders.
Endocrine and metabolic diseases are one of the most global issues in medicine. They not only represent problems regarding the endocrine system but also problems in neurology, cardiology, nephrology, psychology, and psychiatry.
For the first time in the history of Nobel’s day the format had changed, dividing it into two parts. Thereby the IX scientific conference was held for two days instead of one, from the 12th to the 13th of December.
On December 12th Audience was greeted and the conference was opened by Prof. Nia Bregvadze-Tabagari, Dean of David Tvildiani Medical University, and Tinatin Kutchukhidze, President of Students’ and Young Scientists’ Scientific Association, who gave an introductory speech about the Nobel’s Prize 2020. This day was divided into 2 sessions – COVID-19 and its endocrine Complications and Interesting Clinical Cases in Endocrinology.
COVID-19 and Endocrine Complication session was opened by doctor-endocrinologist, Natia Vashakhmadze –the founder and the president of the Georgian Association of Endocrinology and Metabolism,who spoke about “Three pandemics of one era”: Diabetes, Vitamin D deficiency and COVID19.
The session about Interesting Clinical Cases in Endocrinology was opened by doctor-endocrinologist, Nino Zavrashvili, the founder and the president of the Georgian Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, who presented Rare Clinical Cases.
December 13th was opened by doctor-pediatrician, Nazi Tabatadze, the founder of the Georgian Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (GSIEM), session was dedicated to Metabolism and Diabetes.
All Sessions consisted of oral presentations regarding Endocrine and Metabolic diseases from Students of David Tvildiani Medical University and the University of Vienna.
On December 11 and 12, 2021, David Tvildiani Medical University and the Scientific Association of Students and Young Scientists held their 10th annual Nobel Day. This time the conference focused on the epidemiology, uses, and innovations in Covid-19, tropical and oncologic vaccines.
The conference was opened on December 11 by the Dean of David Tvildiani Medical University, Professor Nia Bregvadze-Tabagari.
According to the program, on December 11, the I and II scientific sessions were entirely devoted to current innovations in vaccinology, and the post-doctoral researcher at the Mayo Clinic Vaccine Research Group, Associate Professor Rochester, MN, and Founder and President of the Association of Immunization and Vaccinology (AIVA) Tamar Ratishvili. She spoke about the history of vaccines and the milestones in vaccination. consultant pharmacist, consultant ENT surgeon, and senior lecturer at King’s College London. Global Medical Affairs Lead, Vaccines R&D, GSK, Dr. Maciej D. Zatonski, MD, MFPM, Ph.D. discusses the topic of how to make vaccines.
The second day of the 10th Nobel Day Scientific Session, December 12, was opened by Dr. Nino Ghulatava, Chief Medical Officer of MEGALAB. She spoke about Covid-19 Laboratory Diagnosis. Mamuka Machaidze, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Assistant Fellowship Program Director, Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, talked about the novelties of COVID-19 variants and vaccine boosters.
Abstracts were presented at both day work sessions by DTMU students and students from the faculty of Medicine of Dr. Jose Matthias Delgado University, El Salvador, University of Lublin, Poland, Collegium Medicum Zielona Góra, Poland. Between the presentations and sessions, participants had the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session and discussion;
250-300 people took part in the conference which included students, teachers, residents,Ph.D students as well as doctors.
On December 15th, 2018 “VII Scientific Session: A. Nobel’s Day –Chellenging clinical cases ” , was held in MediclubGeorgia, organized by Students and Young Scientists’ Scientific Association (SYSSA) of David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU). Participants were undergraduate students from DTMU, Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) and special guest, Dr. Tea Kakabadze. Audience was greeted by Prof. Nia Bregvadze-Tabagari.DTMU students introduces Siga (Surgical interest group Aieti ) and “GIGA”. After these presentations, SYSSA president Avtandil Kochiashvili gave an introductory speech. Session consisted of oral presentations regarding Challenging Clinical Cases . At the end of the session, Prof. Tamar Talakvadze awarded participation certificates to all participants. Certificates were also awarded to the organizing committee members of SYSSA.
Youth Scientific Union, “Vitalis” organized Onco 2015 Final conference on 27th November 2015 at the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. Onco 2015 initiated by students of the council is designed to be a large-scale project to help motivate research among medical students toward diagnosis, treatment, and innovation in the field of Oncology.
Participants included undergraduates from David Tvildiani Medical University, Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi Medical Academy, Tbilisi State Medical University, Hippocrates University, SDSU, and Caucasus International University.
The opening of the event included motivational speeches by Acad. F. Todua and Prof. Rema Gamichova, after which students presented their work under two categories – as oral presentations and as posters. Among the oral presentations, DTMU students Karen Stalin and Nata Nakaidze were awarded second place for their presentation on “Oncolytic Virotherapy”. DTMU student Himabindhu Penuganchiprolu’s poster on “Lung cancer patients radiotherapy-response to Chemotherapy” received fourth place among posters.
The best five presentations from both categories were chosen by an evaluation committee comprising renowned academicians, doctors, and scientists. The winners were given a prize for publication of their work in the Society’s scientific journal.
The concluding speech was given by Vakhtang Tebidze, co-founder of YSU who also awarded certificates to the participants.
A counseling conference for applicants preparing for the national exams in biology was held on Saturday, June 25,2016
Mr. Shota Manjavidze, a biology teacher and former specialist of the biology group of the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations, former coordinator of the Examination Center for National Examinations,editor-consultant of the biology textbook intended for entrants, teachers and students – “Biology for entrants”, (authors: L. Burdiladze, N. Sikharulidze, K. Maghradze, D. Baramidze)held the meeting.
The workshop covers the following topics:
• General specifics of unified national exams;
• Instructions for passing the biology exam;
• General guidelines that entrants should take into account during the examination process;
• Discussion of biology tests;
• Structure of the test;
• issues and distribution of points according to topics;
• types of tests;
• distinguishing typical tests of different topics;
• What entrants should take into account when solving genetic problems.
The Students and Young Scientists Scientific Association organized a Public lecture which was conducted by Professor Nino Tabatadze , of Northwestern University on 10 th of July, 2018.
The seminar was on the topic , ‘Neuromodulatory control of hippocampus cells and circuits ‘ and was an absolute brainstorming and intellectual session for the students.
The first Scientific Session for students organized by the Students’ And Young Scientists Scientific Association was held on December 25, 2012, in the Technical University of Georgia’s IV Building on topics- brain examination with anisotropic diffusion by Mikheil Kelengeridze; Modeling of electric dipole moment detector by Dito Shergelashvili, nanotechnologies and nanomedicine-Valerian Khutsishvili, Nanomedicine fiction or reality -Tamo Khechiashvili, important nuclear information, harmless radiation, and decontamination by Tengiz Kardava.
Students and Young Scientists’ Scientific Association of David Tvildiani Medical University (SYSSA) is joining the campaign initiated by the Ministry of Labor Health and Social Affairs of Georgia “Georgia without Hepatitis C”, the aim of which was to inform the public about Hepatitis C and its treatment on 21st January 2015.
Messages of SYSSA for this prevention campaign were:
1. Test it. Find it. Fight it!
2. Ignorance is not bliss. It is a death sentence. Get tested today.
3. Be patient, not an outcast.
